As part of a drive to create jobs and attract investment to less developed regions within the country,\u00a0President Enrique Pe\u00f1a Nieto has signed decrees to launch three special economic zones (SEZs), the first\u00a0of their kind in Mexico.<\/p>\n

Private investment has already been agreed for the SEZs, which are located in Coatzacoalcos in Veracruz\u00a0state, and the port cities of Chiapas in the state of Chiapas, and L\u00e1zaro C\u00e1rdenas-La Uni\u00f3n in the southern\u00a0part of the Mexican state of Michoac\u00e1n. The largest of these new zones will be Coatzacoalcos, spanning\u00a0some 12,846 hectares and due to begin operating before November 2018.<\/p>\n

Mexico\u2019s Ministry of Finance,\u00a0which will administer the country\u2019s news SEZs, expects to launch more in the near future, such as in\u00a0Campeche, a Mexican state on the Yucat\u00e1n Peninsula.
