{"id":1698,"date":"2018-05-14T22:13:50","date_gmt":"2018-05-15T01:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.abrazpe.org.br\/?p=1698"},"modified":"2018-05-14T22:13:50","modified_gmt":"2018-05-15T01:13:50","slug":"tesla-sets-up-new-company-in-shanghais-free-trade-zone-ahead-of-chinese-gigafactory-announcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.abrazpe.org.br\/index.php\/2018\/05\/14\/tesla-sets-up-new-company-in-shanghais-free-trade-zone-ahead-of-chinese-gigafactory-announcement\/","title":{"rendered":"Tesla sets up new company in Shanghai\u2019s Free-Trade Zone ahead of Chinese Gigafactory announcement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"estimated-read-time\">Tempo de leitura:<small> 3 minutos<\/small><\/p> <p>As per CEO Elon Musk\u2019s recent comments, Tesla is expected to soon announce a project for a Gigafactory in China.\u00a0Ahead of the announcement, Tesla has registered a new company in Shanghai\u2019s Free-Trade Zone \u2013 seemingly in preparation for this new manufacturing project.<\/p>\n<p>The new business license has been reportedly approved on May 10th, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/finance.sina.cn\/chanjing\/gsxw\/2018-05-14\/detail-ihapkuvk5212707.d.html?from=wap\">Sina Finance<\/a>.It was registered by Tesla\u2019s Hong Kong subsidiary and approved by the Shanghai Pudong New Area Market Supervision board.<\/p>\n<p>They described the scope of the business in the filing:\u00a0\u201cTechnical development, technical services, technical consultation, technology transfer in the field of electric vehicles and spare parts, batteries, energy storage equipment, photovoltaic products, wholesale and commission agency (excluding auctions) and import and export business of the above-mentioned similar products, And provide related supporting services, electric car display and product promotion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It has been set up with\u00a0100 million yuan (~$15 million USD) working capital to start.\u00a0We have contacted Tesla for a comment on the new subsidiary and we will update if we get an answer.<\/p>\n<p>During Tesla\u2019s Q1 report earlier this month, Musk said that he \u2018expects to announce the location of the Tesla Gigafactory in China soon.\u2019\u00a0Musk added that Robin Ren, Tesla\u2019s head of sales who was also born and raised in Shanghai, was leading the negotiations with the local government.<\/p>\n<p>The automaker had been trying to set up a factory in China for years,\u00a0but the effort has been stalled for a long time due to the government\u2019s protectionist\u00a0rules that force foreign automakers to partner with a local company in order to establish manufacturing capacity.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese government has recently announced a change for that rule, which would now allow\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2018\/04\/17\/tesla-china-factory-ownership\/\">Tesla to own 100% of an electric car factory in the country.\u00a0<\/a>Tesla\u2019s new Chinese subsidiary has been set up in Shanghai\u2019s Free-Trade Zone, which the government has been using to test more open free-market politics, including more relaxed laws about manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>Musk also recently reiterated that all future Gigafactories, which are called \u2018giga\u2019 because they produce gigawatt-hours worth of battery capacity, will also include full vehicle production:<\/p>\n<p>In the future, all Gigafactories will include vehicle production. So, right, now we\u2019ve got vehicle production and battery production. Like, battery production and motor and power electronics and charger production are at Giga 1 and Fremont car factory.
