At the opening of a new SEZ in Indonesia, the Mandalika Special Economic Zone, Enoh Suharto Pranoto,\u00a0the Secretary for the National Council for Special Economic Zones announced the forthcoming launch of\u00a0two further zones before the end of 2017. The additional zones, Lhokseumawe SEZ in Aceh and Galang\u00a0Batang SEZ in Bintan, Riau, would take the country\u2019s total to 14 special economic zones and keep the\u00a0government on course to reach its target of 25 zones by 2019.<\/p>\n

At the inauguration of Mandalika SEZ,\u00a0Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Darmin Nasution restated the rationale behind the policy;\u00a0“Development has to reach underdeveloped regions” he said, adding that “our people should not only act\u00a0as spectators, there has to be constructive cooperation for us to become competitive.”<\/p>\n

According to a report in the Jakarta Globe, the government forecasts that its investment in Mandalika, as\u00a0well as its efforts to promote the area as a tourist destination, will create nearly 60,000 jobs and promote\u00a0a further Rp 28.63 trillion in investment by 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
